Takara isn’t just a restaurant — it’s a neighborhood treasure where locals gather, friendships grow, and every dish is a gesture of care.
When Jacky Zheng first opened Takara, he didn’t dream of building a franchise — he dreamed of building a place for the community. A space where families in Canton, Medfield, and Wayland could feel at home. A place where the food felt special, the service felt personal, and every customer was treated like a regular — because they usually were.

Jacky’s journey started with humble beginnings. Arriving in the U.S. with no money and no English, he worked his way up in restaurant kitchens, driven by perseverance and the desire to give back to the people around him. The first Takara, launched in 2007, was tiny — just a few tables and a sushi bar. But it quickly became a local favorite, thanks to the warm atmosphere and Jacky’s heartfelt hospitality.
The name “Takara,” meaning “treasure” in Japanese, wasn’t just about the food — it was about the people. Jacky and his wife Susie built Takara with the belief that the real treasure is the community that supports you, returns week after week, and brings the next generation along.
From day one, locals have helped shape Takara’s story — recommending new locations, celebrating life’s milestones here, and spreading the word. Jacky listens to every suggestion, remembers names and favorite orders, and treats every visit like a reunion.
“We’re here because of our neighbors,” Jacky says.
“Takara is for the people who live here — the families, the kids, the regulars who’ve become friends. That’s who we do it for.”
Over the years, what started as one small restaurant has grown into three — but the heart hasn’t changed. Whether you’ve lived in the neighborhood for twenty years or just moved in last week, you’re welcome here.
Takara was founded on community-first values — and to this day, every roll, bowl, and plate is made with the same care that started it all.
Takara means treasure.
And for us, the true treasure is you.
